108 and not 100 beads in a maala(sacred necklace used while meditating for the purpose of counting)
The reason is that the maala represents the ecliptic, the path of the sun and the moon across the sky. Yogis divide the ecliptic into 27 equal Nakshatras, and each of these into 4 sections called padas or steps, marking the 108 steps the sun and moon take through the cosmos. Also the distance between the sun and the earth is 108 times the suns diameter and the suns diameter is 108 times the earths diameter and the distance between the earth and the moon is 108 times the moons diameter.
So see 108 was a superstitious number but an scientific number related to astronomy.

The cow is our mother - 'gomata'
The reason is that long ago when medics were few, many mothers died at childbirth. The newborn child needed milk to survive and gomata provided that milk to the infant like a mother does and hence the naati(native) cow is considered a mother to us Indians as it was a source of life to our ancestors. Also the Indian native cows saliva and urine are highly medicinal and used in many Ayurvedic  medicines and also its dung is very useful as the richest available manure available, so it is called a mother in respect of proving sustenance to us.
So it is not some blind belief for us to worship cows, we worship our mothers and thus gomata herself.
The five mothers we worship is Mother(Janani),Motherland(Mathrubhoomi),Mother Earth(Boomatha),Mother Ganga(Gangamata) ,Gomata.

Women are supposed to be younger than men during marriage
It is a biologically proved fact that women mature both mentally and physically faster then men. At marriage for one to understand the other and vice-versa both have to be of the same mental maturity level. But an age difference of more than 10 years is not acceptable as then the women will be of a lower maturity level.

Do not enter water during a Pournami or an Amavasya night
The gravitational effect of the moon which is the cause for tides, is greater and water is in high tide throughout the night. People usually are carried away by the force of the waves. Also tsunamis occur only on Pournami nights.
So this is not a Superstition but really a safety precaution.

Under Construction..............
Hope you enjoyed it.Stay tuned.
